Celebrating Our Veterans at AT&T Park
This Memorial Day, Americans across the country will join together to honor those who have served and sacrificed for our nation and our freedoms. It’s a time that I feel particularly grateful to work for AT&T, where for nearly a century, the company has been dedicated to supporting active military personnel, veterans and their families across the country. Here in the Bay Area, AT&T is welcoming veterans to AT&T Park over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate them, and thank them for their service.
The Giants will be playing the Colorado Rockies Friday, May 24th through Sunday, May 26th. AT&T has donated more than 200 tickets to the AT&T Veterans employee resource group and the Palo Alto VA for the games. On Friday, the first 20,000 fans will receive a specially designed veteran cheer card and they’ll also have a chance to pick up a patriotic prize at the AT&T Digital Lounge. The Digital Lounge as well as the scoreboard will display Love a Vet messages throughout the weekend.
Just last month, AT&T announced a new goal of hiring 5,000 veterans and their family members into career opportunities over the next five years. The commitment was made at a White House event with Michelle Obama, Jill Biden and other companies supporting the Joining Forces Initiative.
AT&T has also teamed up with JP Morgan Chase and the 100,000 Jobs Mission to launch an online veteran talent exchange later this year. For AT&T, these programs are just part of a continued commitment to mainstream our military recruitment strategies so veterans are positioned as a group with special skills and experience that are of great value to our business. In fact, hiring veterans has been integrated into our business-as-usual recruitment practices for years. In the past two years, we have enhanced our military recruitment programs by increasing our marketing and branding activities within the veteran community and by dedicating a Military Talent Attraction program manager to inform the military about AT&T and to educate AT&T managers about the military.
